Hello, my name is Eva Garcia. I am the translator and
this week we worked on the dark side of textbooks. We have found that the
textbooks are not good for students or for teachers. I had to find and define
five terms. I selected five key terms such as: subtitle, a series of TV
advertisements, editorial and fable. I hope that through
these definitions you may know better this week’s practice.
-Subtitle: Is an additional subordinate title given to a
literary or other work. Subtitles are also often used in silent films. Written
text that appears on some movies in original version, usually at the bottom of
the screen, on images, and translates the original text of the dialogues that
interpret the actors, i.e., as the actors speak is written what they are saying.
Also is a written translation superimposed on a film that has foreign dialogue.
-A series of TV advertisements: any
public notice, as a printed display in a newspaper, short film on television,
announcement on radio, etc, designed to sell goods, publicize an event, etc.
Shortened forms: ad or advert.
-Textbook: A book
used in schools or colleges for the formal study of a subject. Textbooks are different depending on the
subject, editorial, year…. Textbooks are books that students use to study and
learn new knowledge.
-Editorial: a type of company that is responsible for the publication
and distribution of texts. There are different types of editorial. Each
editorial has different information, images, text… of other books that other
editorials have got.
-Fable:
A false, fictitious, or improbable account; fiction or lie. A short
moral story usually with animals or other characters. The story or legend about
supernatural or mythical characters or legend. Fables usually have a moral for
kids.
